Welcome to Elise's HERO Page
Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. This statistic sounds pretty gruesome until you know someone who has a blood cancer. Then, it's downright horrifying. Our family became part of that statistic in April 2010 when our 6-year-old daughter Elise was diagnosed with ALL. The one thing that kept us from becoming completely unhinged in those early hours and days was the knowledge that there was a good chance Elise would survive. Who, aside from our wonderful doctors and nurses, do we have to thank for that? Well...
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has been working for over 60 years to find better treatments and cures for these diseases, and their relentless pursuit of a cure has had a profound impact. Survival rates across all blood cancers have doubled and tripled in the last 20 years. And the survival rate for childhood leukemia has increased from just 4% to over 85% today! Thanks to research sponsored by LLS, we get to be part of this very hopeful statistic, too.
From day one, our wonderful family and friends have asked what they can do to help, and how they can support Elise. That has been a real head-scratcher for us, because not everyone can donate blood or join the bone marrow registry. We are fortunate to have good health insurance, and Elise has everything she needs along with a fair number of the things she wants. But the one thing she will tell you she wants more than anything is for no more kids to get Leukemia. She also wants a cure that doesn't make her and her friends in clinic feel so lousy. How will we go about helping Elise realize her dreams for the future of Leukemia treatment?
Elise is our hero, and our family has joined this fundraising campaign for her. And for the family that will receive devastating news four minutes from now, eight minutes from now, twelve minutes from now...
There is no doubt that your support will contribute to more advances, and will save more lives.
Please give what you can. There are more than 957,000 people living with blood cancers in the U.S. today, and we are grateful for your heroic support in this battle!
